Floating solar photovoltaic power development in Afghanistan, Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan

OCA Global was awarded in 2018 with a project of Technical Assistance 2.9 million financed by the Banco Asiático de Desarrollo (BAsD) to develop floating solar photovoltaic power systems in Central Asia.

The team, made up of 33 experts, is coordinated from Barcelona and is carrying out the design, bidding process and supervision of the construction of three 100 kW pilot plants in Afghanistan, Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan. Feasibility studies are also being carried out for the construction of commercial-scale floating solar plants in the three countries, and a tariff and business model analysis is being conducted in each of the countries.

The pilot plants under construction consist of solar photovoltaic panels, floating platforms, mooring systems, grid connection infrastructure and energy storage systems. The installation of a weather station adjacent to the floating photovoltaic power systems will also be carried out.

In addition, an environmental and social assessment has been conducted to evaluate the potential impacts of the facilities on the flora and fauna of the site.
