OCA Global was selected earlier this year to support the government of Barbados (a small island developing state in the Caribbean) in upgrading their Contribución Determinada a Nivel Nacional (NDC) under the framework of the Paris Agreement on climate change.
The project is funded by the NDC Invest of Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo (BID) and led by the Ministry of Environment and National Beautification (MENB) of Barbados, and is expected to last until September 2020.
During the first half of June, the OCA Global team of consultants carried out the first of what will be three large rounds of consultations with the country's key stakeholders, better known as Dialogue 1 of the NDC. Approximately 100 of Barbados' leading experts participated in it, including members of the Government, the IDB and representatives of all economic sectors present in the NDC.
Throughout the three sessions, the first Dialogue was held virtually due to the Covid-19 crisis. Our leading experts, both local and international, presented their assessment of the challenges and opportunities, as well as the needs of all sectors: energy, transport, water resources, waste, tourism, agriculture, coastal zone protection and disaster risk management. disasters.
The discussions with the experts were lively and yielded a lot of new insights, proving that it is indeed possible to work meaningfully through a virtual improvement process designed by our stakeholder communication team.
OCA Global, in conjunction with the government and the IDB, will continue its work towards an ambitious update of the Barbados NDC to align the goals of the Acuerdo de Parísand Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (SDG) with the objectives, needs and priorities of the country.
